Girl Scout T-Shirt Blanket

Fleece-backed Girl Scout T-shirt blanket

This blanket is a dozen years in the making.

I had a crazy idea about the time my daughter was a Brownie. Save up her camp and Girl Scout T-shirts to make a blanket for college.

You can certainly order a twin or queen-sized blanket from a company online, or if you have time (and an obscene amount of patience), you can sew a fleece-backed T-shirt blanket.

Two yards of fleece will accommodate 20 squares cut from shirts. You will also need 2-3 yards of iron-on interfacing to help keep the T-shirt materials from stretching.

(Leader parent suggestion: Hang on to any adult-sized shirts you may acquire from events, especially from the Daisy and Brownie years, as those sizes may be too small depending on the size of the youth shirt.)

I’ll be honest that I’m not a sewer, and this wasn’t an intuitive project for me. I approached it by reading step-by-step on blogs from knowledgable sewers and quilters.

Enjoy saving those memories!
