Last year, I realized quickly that these girls were hungry – or hangry – coming to our troop meetings. Many times, they were coming straight from practices to scout meetings. This year looks to be no different.
Initially, we’d have a Jockamo’s pizza or breadsticks and sauce, but then it dawned on me. Why not use it as an occasion to get the girls in the kitchen? If we weren’t having as many outdoor or overnight experiences that afforded them a chance to cook, why not include them in their meeting?
After some research, here are some snack and meal ideas that the girls can prepare without resorting to chips, popcorn or fast food:
- Baked potato bar
- Taco bar
- Rice and beans
- Breakfast – waffle bar, pancakes, etc.
- “Grilled cheese for a crowd” – prepared in the oven!
- Hawaiian rolls sliced with ham and cheese with different dressing
- One troop does a “dip around” with guacamole, queso, salsa, hummus
