Encouragement For Your Cleanliness-Adverse Campers

“A Scout is clean.”

Kind of.

My Scout used to think that meant jumping in the lake at summer camp.

Needless to say, the leaders were not amused, especially in July.

But as a troop we found away from the frustration of fighting campers to shower at least once during summer camp week. Last year, we created “I showered at camp” buttons that they could get from an adult upon presenting their freshly cleaned self at the campsite.

It was a hit. So much so that the Scouts who went to the backpacking trip that year were asking about earning their “showering badge” this summer at camp.

A few dollars and some doodling on patches is well worth preventing the fights and stress of trying to convince a preteen Scout that going to take a shower was not a bad thing.

Here’s an example of our troop’s 2024 “limited edition showering patches” made with blank patches you can order on Amazon.  We used Copic markers, but you could also use Sharpies to decorate these one-of-a-kind patches.

(In retrospect, doing patches is preferable to the make-your-own buttons that snap together, as we learned the hard way that they would fall apart during the week.)

Happy camping!
