How to Get a Girl Scout Gold Award Letter from the Pope

Our Girl Scout troop recently marked our first Gold Award! The Gold Award is such a huge accomplishment and does not get enough credit. That and combined what the reality that our council’s Gold Award celebration would not be held until next summer, we wanted to mark the occasion and celebrate the hard work.

This particular Girl Scout is not the type to request a large Eagle Scout type celebration that focused on herself. However she does practice the Catholic faith. So we did something a little special.

Just as you can for Eagle Scout awards, you can request a letter of recognition from important people in your lives, political leaders and other people of interest. I had heard that you could request a letter of recognition from Pope Francis but I’ve only seen one instance before.

After doing a little searching, we found an address to request they congratulatory letter to a Girl Scout earning her Gold Award from Pope Francis.

His Holiness, Pope Francis
Apostolic Nunciature
3339 Massachusetts Ave., NW
Washington, DC 20008-3687

We wrote a letter citing the Girl Scout’s name, her Gold Award project, troop number, and the church she attends.

In under 2 weeks time we received a lovely letter and card. It states,

His Holiness Pope Francis, as an expression of esteem for (Girl Scout) extend prayerful good wishes on the occasion of attaining the highest award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award. We are framing it for presentation.
