Our Cadette troop is blessed this year to be able to take in a few new girls, one of whom has never before been a Girl Scout. While searching for ways to teach her about the ideals of Girl Scouting without talking down to the rest of the girls, who have been scouts since Daisies, I stumbled upon this beautiful rededication ceremony from a long-gone council and was able to tweak it for today.

This rededication ceremony is perfect because it speaks to the hearts of preteens and teens. It shares why we should bother to make a difference in people’s lives in living out the Girl Scout law and promise.

Girl Scout Rededication Ceremony for Older Scouts

Supplies needed: 11 candles, matches or lighter

Set up the room with 11 lit candles. Room is dark.

Leader: We all know the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We have said it many times over the past years. But maybe we have questioned its value or wondered if it even mattered. What would happen if we stopped living our promise and law?

What would the world be like if we stopped serving God and our country?

(Blow out one candle.)

What would the world be like if we stopped helping people in need?

(Blow out one candle.)

What would the world be like if we stopped living the promise and law?

(Blow out one candle.)

What would the world be like if we chose to be dishonest?

(Blow out one candle.)

What would the world be like if we chose to be only care what happens to us?

What would the world be like if we chose to ignore others who hurt?

What would the world be like if we didn’t stand up for what’s right?

What would the world be like if we only blamed others for what we did and what went wrong?

What would the world be like if we didn’t love ourselves and others?

The world would be a pretty dark place.

But today, I want to renew my promise to love my God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout law
